Hydrogenaudio Forums -> mp3/id3v1 problem in foobar 0.7
It turned out to be because MP3Gain was writing an APE tag (containing undo info) to the file. Foobar2000 would then see the tag, and decide to only use APE tag, and ignore the ID3 tag.
Further down in the conversation there is a link to a torrent file. Or, this is the torrent.

Installing Debian from an USB memory stick (USB key)
To create a bootable USB memory stick, you can use the "mbr" package from debian (to write an MBR to the stick itself), and then syslinux (to write a boot loader to the first partition on the stick).
On the test stick that I have, the first partition is offset by 16kb from the start of the stick.
aaltonen.us: Tip: Boot from USB Key
Though the original site is down, this guy thoughtfully mirrored the utilty needed.
I was getting a bunch of "non-system disk or disk error" messages when I was trying to use PXElinux to boot memdisk and a dos floppy image.
Turns out that I needed to enable the floppy drive in the BIOS for memdisk to work properly. After I did that, everything was fine.
This is also called a "mixed system", and is described in the "APT HOWTO - Managing packages" as well.
I've blogged other transparency thingers (well, ok 1, but twice), but this one is better.

Super-badass.
Incorrect jumper settings will also prevent the BIOS from detecting your drive. The most common incorrect jumper setting used is for a drive that is alone on the data cable. Keep in mind that the concept of Master/Slave applies to a given EIDE channel. If there are two drives on the data cable, one must be Master and one designated as Slave. If the drive is the only device on the cable, it should be jumpered as a Single drive, NOT a Master. To do this, place a jumper shunt on pins 4 & 6, or remove the jumper shunt completely to set the drive as a Single drive.
Apparently, when you have just one drive on a chain, you should not set it to Master. I was having problems with this old P200 that I got. It wouldn't see the drive from BIOS (even though Linux had no problem installing to and using the drive).
