WINUP-Use Stepping Mode to Diagnose Installation Failures
You can use Stepping Mode to step through the windows update procedure. In this way, you can acquire redistributable patches, even if the only place to download them is Windows Update.

ShareReactor - Tricking DVD player into playing SVCD!!!
This is great news for anyone with a DVD player that cannot play SVCD's, or untill now...
Step 1: Open TMPEG click on "file," "MPEG tools," For "Video Input" click browse and select your SVCD MPG. In the drop down menu at the top select "MPEG-1 VCD" enter an output source and hit run. (You might get an error message at the end, OK it it's not a problem.)
Step 2: Open NERO Burning Rom, close the wizard, choose VCD, leave all settings as they are click NEW drag in your new MPEG, (You may have to turn off standard compliance.)
If you install Demon Tools (no, not those daemontools) you can mount a bin/cue file as a CD, and use the mpg file within that directly.
Differentiated Services on Linux
Man. I've been looking for this for a while now. Traffic throttling, etc.
I tweaked the vncdec.c that I found somewhere to accept the 16character hex version of the vnc password on the command line. That way, you don't need to recompile the source, and you can use it in scripts and so forth. Here's a win32 binary that shouldn't require the cygwin dll. It will crash if you don't give it an arguement. :)

Welcome to Tech-Hints.com. This site will focus on the deployment and tricks behind Windows based operating systems. I hope that the site will grow beyond that, but for now I will restrict the site to how it started. For those of you coming from the old site may notice that I am actually on the same server as www.thetechguide.com. Huge thanks goes to Josetann for helping me find a new home!
