We had these guys (specifically Tara Arrowood) take our wedding photos. And, man, are they bad. I can't believe we paid $800 (apparently, this is much less than their standard price) for them.
Approximately 80% of the pictures are "artistically shot", with people stretching from one corner to the opposite corner. Since we were on a boat, the horizon is perpendicular to them. This creates a big X in the picture, which I find to be very distracting, visually. It would have been fine if there were one or two like that (as is the case in the online sample of her work), but literally 4 out of 5 of them are this way.
For Pete's sake, she could have just taken the picture from further away, and the later cropped it to satisfy her artistic desires. Leaving us with the original, representational-of-what-actually-happened pictures.
Maybe I was confused about what to expect from a wedding photographer. I had thought we would get pictures of our wedding and the people in it, but taken with better equipment/lighting. Instead we got someone's artistic creation.
I am reminded of the "bad designer" from Trading Spaces (the dark haired NY one) who does crazy "artistic" things like try to paint a fabric couch with housepaint, and then "accidently" leaves it out in the rain because it was a stupid idea in the first place.
