I just read a thing on slashdot about RAID at home. One guy said that he does software RAID 1 mirrors, grouped together under LVM. I am totally going to do this. The beauty of it is that you can trivially continue to add drives to the setup just as in un-RAIDed LVM. Granted, it's a /bit/ wasteful of space, but that is a small price to pay compared to the ease of expansion as you want more room.
Plus, later on, you can just repurpose the smaller drives, as you hit the limits of your other hardware (motherboard, powersupply, etc.)
